What did you do on your summer vacation?
Well it's been quite a summer around MYC. Your Bridge Officers and Committee members have been very busy. A huge thank you to all of them.
House Committee: Jeff Skoda, Danny Grimm, Bob Mininni, Carl Carlson, V/C Bill Warner. Doors have been painted, trees have been trimmed, lights have been repaired, outside doors to propane shed, water tank enclosure doors have been repaired. Work continues in the kitchen to repair a wall by the dishwasher. Lots has been done and we have this Committee to thank for all their hard work. Also, Bill Warner installed a new heat lamp in the kitchen, so your food will stay warm.
Shanna, has been working diligently to help reduce expenses: revised deal with Aramark for our linens and a new phone system from Comcast. Thanks Shanna!!
Insurance Committee: Dennis Klima and Loyal Eldridge did a great deal of work to revise all of our insurances and change agents. That effort resulted in a cost savings to MYC. Thanks Dennis and Loyal!
The furniture around the pool has been repaired, thanks to arrangements made by Dee Swatik. We still need one more chair repaired and a new table and table top which should be here by early November. Huge Thank You to the Auxiliary and the Bar Fund who paid for all the furniture repairs.
Now let's talk about the business: A huge amount of work has been done to reduce expenses. On the revenue side, July and August were extremely slow in the marina and the dining room. Considering the COVID-19 issue, it is understandable. However, there are still many people here over the summer who could do a better job of supporting the Club: whether it's the bar, dining room, ships store; they all need your support. We are continuing outside dining and take out, so please support the Club.
As you know, MYC will be open the entire month of September: No Closure in September. In October we will resume our regular hours:
Dinner: Tuesday through Saturday
Lunch: Wednesday and Friday 11:30-2:30
Mahjong: Wednesday and Friday from 11:30-3:30 (FOR MEMBERS ONLY)
Since we cannot have dancing, we will continue our Special Dinners on Friday night.
On another note: There is going to be "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in the Florida Keys" event in Marathon on October 24 at 8:00am. Instead of the usual walk, people will be riding in cars and golf carts. Jackie Sparber has arranged an 8 person golf cart for MYC. There is a website for donations (makingstrideswalk.org/floridakeys). Please let me know if you are interested in participating. More information will be coming; but first we need a team.
2020 continues to be an interesting and challenging year for everyone. I sincerely appreciate all your ideas and support. As we move into the Fall and the return of our winter members, please remember that Marathon Yacht Club is a special place. Tell your friends and neighbors: We are friendliest little yacht club in Florida!
Stay safe and well: Wear your masks and wash your hands.
